Claude Mods: Build Your First Claude Code Mod

Build one small behavior first: a status band, a tool-call observation or a focused panel. Use Anthropic’s current tutorial and reference for exact API signatures.

Start with a plugin folder

A mod is packaged as a plugin. Its .claude-plugin/plugin.json describes the plugin, and a hooks module exports the registration entry point. The discovery bot looks for both a manifest and hook source, rather than listing every Claude-related repository.

Register the events you need

Function hooks receive the engine interface, event and continuation. Some events observe behavior; others can transform it. Forward events according to the API contract and avoid intercepting unrelated activity.

Draw a useful interface

A ui.render handler responds to a render site. A small AbovePrompt band is a practical first experiment; a Pane can hold a larger dashboard. Handle input with the matching interface events and keep redraws inexpensive.

Test, document and share

Use the current Claude Code plugin validation and test commands. Document permissions, dependencies, supported versions, installation, activation and removal. Share the repository or marketplace, then submit the mod to this directory.
